Sexual discrimination in children's TV show

      Seoul YWCA is monitoring a diversity of media tools whether or not it contains gender discrimination contents. Last April, the monitor members looked through 79 children TV shows to found out cases violate gender equality. A lady character doll was worried and said "Oh I gained 0.33kg than yesterday!" -> This pictures that women are too much concerned about how to be looked by other. This scene also encourages lookism. Mon does house chores and Dad makes money from work. -> This may make children to grow traditional gender roles stereotype.

Special fundraising event at Starbucks

On May 25th, a new Starbucks coffee shop has been opened in the Shinsegae Department Store located in Myeongdong. They thankfully launched an opening event with Seoul YWCA. When a customer donates above 3,000won(around 3 dollars), Starbucks offers a mug for free and the donated money goes to Seoul YWCA. The fund raised by the customers will be used for youth delinquents to be stood up by themselves. It was great collaboration between Starbucks and Seoul YWCA. Looking forward to next one to make this world better!

Seoul YWCA Breakfast Meeting

May 23rd, Peace Bridge 95 people were invited to the Breakfast Meeting Seoul YWCA hosted in the Royal Hotel. The purpose of this meeting was to celebrate Seoul YWCA's 95th anniversary and share the vision towards 100th year. Also there was a networking time with community leaders in Korean society. The president Ms.Jongnam Cho explained the way Seoul YWCA walked along and YWCA's future for justice-, equity-,life-centered world. Seoul YWCA hopes all the participants to become supporters of YWCA and have interests in what we are doing. Thank you all!

World Friend Korea volunteering program has been kicked off!

May 19th~21th, 2017 the 34th World Friend Korea Volunteering program has been kicked off and Seoul YWCA had the first meeting with students. Seoul YWCA plans to go to Tanzania in this summer and provides IT class for Tanzania YWCA members. Also the Korean volunteers will prepare for art, music, physical education for St. Augustine primary school students and cultural exchange activity with Tanzanian children and youths. Seoul YWCA news in April

Garak Social Welfare Service Center launched the "Healthy homemade pizza" class on the April 15th. Parents and their children made unique pizza shows the family's specialty. This event provide cheerful weekend all the participants.   Boncheon Social Welfare Service Center ran a class that fosters multiculture activists during from April 13th to 27th. 17 participants learned the necessity of understanding multicultural environment and teaching methods.

Seoul YWCA went to CSW!

March, 10th-20th, 2017, Seoul YWCA HEEJIN LIM(EWHA Y, Peacetalktalk) participate UN CSW 61 (CSW is abbreviation for Commission on the status of women) with three other young women participants. Before CSW, She also participated the youth forum which was held by UN women. In youth forum, she debated and share opinion about gender equality with people from all over the world.       This year, the main theme of CSW is " Women's economic empowerment in the changing world of work". During the session, she can learn about each countries' policy for women and also share various viewpoints through interactions with participants from many countries.              Also, she prepared presentation about "women and war, conflict" with other young women participants.
